Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” – Ferris Bueller

The due date for the birth of my first child, a little girl, is March 8th 2010. It literally seems like only yesterday that I got the news that I was going to be a father.

We spend so much time trying to achieve our hopes and dreams that quite often you forget about what is happening right now. We’re all busy, we all know the feeling of not having enough time and trying to fit as much as we can into our day. But we’re missing the big picture.

Life Moves Pretty Fast

Life is happening. And while you’re sat on your laptop creating articles that tell other people how to live a better life, you’re missing out on the awesome life you keep talking about. Sometimes, you just have to stop thinking about the future, stop trying to create something amazing and stop focusing on the maybes.

Focus on the now, live for the moment, get out there and just enjoy your life.

I’m going to spend the rest of today with my heavily pregnant and constantly complaining girlfriend and I will love every second of it.

What are you going to enjoy today?

Perfectly agree Ian. I always make sure that my family comes first in my life.

I came across a quote today that matches exactly your point.

“don’t miss the amazing colours of the rainbow while your searching for the pot of gold at the end of it”

  2. Ian says:

    Love that quote, Ben.

Looks like it’s just you and me that are trying not to miss out on life though, eh? Nobody else here…

    Ian,

Congrats! I always wonder about that whole thing about giving advice while not spending time with your own family or friends. However, I try to do it after I’ve spent my time with them :)

March is coming quiiiiiick! Heads up!

    • Ian says:

It’s a happy medium, right Moon? I love writing and helping people but I love spending time with my family more. Fitting them both in is really important for balancing your life.

March IS coming quick. It’ll soon be Christmas again…:D

  4. Jen says:

Congratulations! :) and thanks for the reminder … very true and easy to forget!

  5. Hi Ian,

Glad to meet you online. I do like your blog design and am checking out Thrilling Theme myself now.

Enjoyed this post and living the moment. I think every moment is a spiritual opportunity to be fully present. These days, I get to choose the life experiences I want and enjoy, for which I am very grateful, and I balance introspection with interaction and experience in “the real world.”

What thrills me the most is talking with people about what’s really going on for them, their innermost struggles and joys and successes. I can do that online, or in person, or by phone, or by the myriad digital connection possibilities.

Today I got to meet up with a friend at a coffeeshop and hear about the latest on her inner journey, and share some of my week’s experiences. There is nothing better for me. Just love honesty, true inner reflection, getting better, being the best we can be.

Hey, good luck on impending fatherhood, how exciting. Hope it’s all you dream of and more!

    Linda

I’m also going to be a dad and our due date is March 28 2010. How cool is that?

I agree – once in a while you should stop writing great articles and go out and experience the life you always talk about helping others live. Isn’t that the point a lot of people are wanting to experience anyway?

    Great stuff here, Ian! :)

    • Ian says:

I just discovered your blog yesterday Eric and was going to comment once I got back onto my computer about our similar due dates. Are you having a girl or a boy or do you not know?

Don’t get me wrong – I love talking about how to live a great life and hopefully giving others the tools to lead a better one, but I also love to take a step back from it sometimes and actually enjoy my life too.

  7. Eric says:

    Ian,

We’re having a girl! :) We’ve known this for a while and I’m not sure why I didn’t mention this in my comment.

And yes, it’s good to help others and show them and talk about living a good life and it’s just as good to go out once in a while and live it up! :)

    Take care, Ian!

I read your post and the first thing that popped in to my mind was, “Get out there and enjoy what is happening now!” My wife is also pregnant and I am deployed with the military, second pregnancy and second time missing it. Enjoy it bud, it can get under our skin but when it is over you will be glad you were there for her and so will she.

    • Ian says:

Ah, you must hate missing it a second time round.

Whenever I find myself getting too engrossed in what I want to achieve, I put down my work and spend time with family. Enjoy the moments because when all is said and done – they are what matter most.

  9. Paul says:

    Ian,

My first visit here, I’ll be back, especially if you write great stuff like this. A wonderful reflective view on how life should be lived. (yes I’ve used the word should).

    Thank you for sharing.

    Regards

    Paul
